What Will You Do with Your Life on Earth? Dante's Guide to Freedom

Presented by Nicole Pagano

Perhaps you find yourself in a transition navigating a loss, a leaving, or an illness. Or maybe a subtler change is happening and what was once familiar is now elusive. What if a wise and beautiful work of art could appear, ready to help you face life’s challenges and inspire a way forward?

The Divine Comedy, Dante’s poem from the 13th century, traverses the afterlife to offer an extraordinary view on humanity. His Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso teem with souls experiencing freedom in varying degrees. We, the readers, learn from these spirits with Dante as our guide and, by the poem’s last lines, we are called to exercise our freedom and engage our imagination anew. After seeing the ruins, rigors, and revelations of the hereafter, can we employ that newfound freedom to make more loving and just relationships with ourselves, our neighbors, our world, and our God?
