Enjoy SAT's Quiet Setting and Easy Access to the Natural Beauty and Culture of California
SAT is located in a retreat-like setting, at St. Albert’s Priory, in Oakland, near the Berkeley campus of the University of California and across the bay from San Francisco, easily accessible by public transportation to San Francisco and other Bay Area sights and cities, culture and entertainment.
SAT is an affiliate of the Graduate Theological Union, in Berkeley. The GTU is an ecumenical and interreligious crossroads, building bridges among Christian denominations and other faith traditions, and dedicated to educating students for teaching, research, ministry, and service. Through SAT’s affiliation with the GTU, participants on full-Sabbatical (one or two semesters) enjoy the many benefits that come with being a GTU student, such as a GTU library card (and access to the U.C. Berkeley library), student discounts, and other privileges.
During Sabbatical at SAT, participants may choose to explore and enjoy the beauty and variety of our surroundings, including the Northern California Coast, Carmel, Monterey, the Napa Valley wine country, Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Mountains, Yosemite and other national parks.
Convenient housing at SAT is available at St. Albert Priory, the home of SAT. Surrounded by lovely grounds, the Priory is conveniently located in the Rockridge* district of Oakland, just two blocks from BART, the transit system connecting the East Bay with San Francisco. Single, furnished bedrooms, with sinks, are available for women and men on separate floors. Bathroom and shower facilities are shared in common on each floor of the residence. Residents enjoy the use of a spacious lounge and kitchenette. A dining room for residents offers full meal service three times daily.
